Sir John Swan Appointed as BIOS Life Trustee
During April’s all-hands Board of Trustees meeting, attendees unanimously voted to name current Trustee Sir John Swan, K.B.E., J.P., as a Life Trustee in recognition of his 37 years of service to BIOS.
Known to most people on the island as the longest serving Premier of Bermuda (1982-1995) and the youngest person to ever lead the United Bermuda Party (UBP), Sir John Swan has received numerous local and international awards. In 1990 he was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) and, more recently, was one of four individuals inducted into the Bermuda Business Hall of Fame in 2010.
Currently, Sir John Swan serves as Chairman of the Swan Group of Companies, which built over 40% of the residential property in Bermuda, as well as the first condominium complex in Hamilton. He is also a dedicated patron of the arts in Bermuda and plays an active role in local charitable organizations and city of Hamilton development projects.
Dr. Walwyn Hughes, a Vice Chairman of BIOS noted, ”Sir John has always had a keen interest in BIOS and has been a strong supporter of and advocate for the institution throughout his long tenure as a Trustee. We look forward to having his continued involvement in his new role as Life Trustee.”
