Oban Jones


Oban began his marine research career at the age of 16 as an apprentice for Plymouth Marine Laboratory (UK). He mastered fundamental sampling techniques and developed expertise of the equipment used in coastal waters surrounding South West England, ranging from data buoys to automated underwater vehicles (AUVs). During this time, Oban was the coxswain for a variety of small boats and served as a technician aboard the Plymouth Quest.

In 2022, Oban joined the team of marine science technicians aboard R/V Atlantic Explorer where his responsibilities range from leading deck operations to ensuring WIFI connectivity and occasionally catching dinner for the crew!
