Scientific impact

Since the installation of a shipboard ADCP on MV Oleander in 1992, Oleander observations have supported a broad and growing body of scientific research. As of August 2026, 66 scientific publications directly using Oleander ADCP, XBT and TSG observations have accumulated more than 3,500 citations and involved 159 unique researchers. The infographic below highlights the breadth of this scientific impact, from Gulf Stream transport and shelf warming to satellite validation, marine heatwaves and submesoscale ocean dynamics.
