Arizona State University launched four new ocean-focused degree programs within the College of Global Futures — a Bachelor of Science in ocean futures, a Bachelor of Science in ocean futures with a concentration in coastal and marine sciences, an online Master of Science in coastal and marine science and management, and a PhD in ocean futures.

“Innovation was celebrated in many ways as close to 200 youngsters and interested parents got a fantastic view of the scores of programmes that encourage Bermuda’s young people to embrace innovation and harness their imagination and creativity,” Minister of National Security Wayne Caines said.

Minister of Education Diallo Rabain recently visited the science, technology, engineering and mathematics [STEM] class at Clearwater Middle School.

Shane Antonition said: “The sources of microplastics in our waters are multifaceted. These can range from litter that originated from Bermuda such as through accidental releases, though most of it comes from overseas on the ocean currents.

On Saturday, April 27, twenty-four teams from eight schools—including a new team from Impact Mentoring Academy—met at the National Sports Centre for the 2019 Marine Advanced Technology in Education [MATE] Bermuda Regional Remotely Operated Vehicle [ROV] Challenge.

BIOS is looking forward to collaborating with Warwick Academy on developing programs and learning opportunities for their new Marine Science Facility. Both BIOS and Warwick Academy see the value of providing the next generation with a variety of classroom and field-based learning opportunities in the STEM subjects, which then serve to strengthen Bermuda’s pool of talent and expertise.

Both BIOS and Bermuda College are known for providing outstanding educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects for the island’s young people. While the Bermuda College is a degree-granting institution and BIOS is a not-for-profit research and education facility that focuses on training local students in primary, middle, and high school, both organizations have a similar goal: to provide the island’s children and young adults with the knowledge, skills, and experiences required for future success in academics and the workforce.
