In a move to bolster the organization’s fund raising efforts and further advance its research and educational programs, BIOS recently welcomed Audrey Rogerson as its new Director of Resource Development.

Prior to coming to BIOS, Audrey worked as Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations for the Boston Museum of Science, and as the Director of Development for the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. From 2001-2008, Audrey was the Director of Foundation Relations at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), during which time she collaborated with Bill Curry, BIOS President and Director, on several successful fundraising initiatives.

“I’m delighted to be back in the ocean sciences community and at BIOS in particular—an organization with a long and proud history and, certainly, a great future as well. My goal is to deepen and expand BIOS’s philanthropic partnerships, and ensure that philanthropic investments are strategically leveraged to maximize their effectiveness. Under Bill Curry’s leadership, I am confident that BIOS can capitalize on its strengths, garner new financial support, and achieve its full potential.”

Audrey brings unique expertise to BIOS: in addition to her wealth of experience working in development for scientific and education organizations, she has a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University and was a member of the Scientific Staff at WHOI in the Physical Oceanography Department. With this background, she is skilled in communicating complex scientific topics and research agendas to scientific laypeople, as well as working with scientists to strategically define research initiatives and identify funding opportunities.

Although Audrey will be based in the US, she will travel regularly to Bermuda to meet individually with Board members and other long-standing supporters of BIOS, while also working to develop new philanthropic partnerships on the island and overseas.  As a member of the senior management team, Audrey will also work closely with Bill Curry and William Welton, BIOS Chief Operating Officer, on key organizational and management issues.

In welcoming Audrey, Bill Curry, President and Director of BIOS, remarked, “I am thrilled to be working with Audrey again.  Her extensive experience working at scientific research and education institutions enabled her to develop unique skills in strategic planning that will help BIOS prepare for and navigate the challenges facing it in the future.  I feel fortunate to have her as part of the BIOS team.”
