Allan Gray In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received news of the passing of former Trustee and friend of BIOS, Allan W. B. Gray on Nov 10, 2019.
Allan became involved with BIOS in 2002 and served on the board until March of 2015. Through his longstanding dedication and generosity Allan was a quiet presence from which the Institute routinely sought guidance and advice. He had a strong interest in all aspects of education and a keen curiosity for research and the broader scientific endeavor.
“Allan’s generosity to BIOS touched every aspect of the Institute – its core science, the development of modern teaching and collaboration spaces and, most typical of his philosophy, the Bermuda Program which helps launch young Bermudians into science careers,” said BIOS Board Chair, Bill Charrier.
Bill Curry, President and CEO of BIOS shared, “Allan and his wife Gill have been wonderful friends of BIOS for many years and indeed other charities both here and in South Africa. Allan’s passion for and support of education and improving opportunities for students was well known and respected. His friendship will be greatly missed.”
The staff and Board of BIOS extend their sincerest condolences to Gill and the entire Gray family.
