Captain Patrick-Redmond

Captain Patrick Redmond has worked his way up the ranks on the research vessel Atlantic Explorer since he arrived at ASU BIOS as a 2nd Mate in 2016. Since that time, he has risen to the rank of Chief Mate, and then Captain. Patrick is ultimately responsible for the safety of the ship and its crew, as well as ensuring that the visiting science groups accomplish their mission while aboard the R/V Atlantic Explorer.

He holds an Unlimited Second Mate’s License and a 1600 GT Master’s License issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Patrick has worked in the marine science field for most of his career, including his college days at State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime Academy, where he graduated with a BS in Marine Environmental Science. Since graduation, he’s worked for Scripps Institute of Oceanography, NOAA, Office of Naval Research, and Florida Institute of Oceanography on six different research vessels before coming to ASU BIOS.
