John R. H. (Jack) Lightbourn, In Memoriam
With sadness, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received news of the passing of former BIOS Trustee and Life Trustee, Mr. John R. H. (Jack) Lightbourn.
Jack first became involved in the then Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) in the 1970’s. He was a member of the BBSR Corporation and was elected as a trustee to BBSR in October 1979. He served as chair of the annual fund campaign in 1984 and worked tirelessly to pique interest in the Station and secure continued support from other like-minded friends. Jack retired from active service on the board in 1988 and was subsequently elected a life trustee.
A steadfast supporter of BIOS, Jack was quick to provide words of encouragement and recognition and enjoyed attending events, commenting in 2012 that, “it is most gratifying to know that so many people think so highly of the Institute as indeed do I.”
The staff and board of BIOS extend its sincerest condolences to Jack’s family and friends.
