In June at a celebration of the partnership between the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and Arizona State University, an extraordinary pair of scholarship opportunities were unveiled for Bermudian students to study at ASU. The program reflects ASU’s core principle that it should take genuine responsibility for the welfare of the communities in which it operates. Applications are now open.

The ASU Bermuda Tuition Scholarship program makes available five full-tuition scholarships per year for Bermudian students, awarded on a competitive basis, to study in person at one of ASU’s campuses.  Students taking advantage of this scholarship will have tuition costs covered for the full four years.  The ASU Bermuda Tuition Scholarship will be awarded for study beginning in the spring semester of 2025, and for subsequent semesters.

The ASU Bermuda Scholarship is awarded per year on a non-competitive basis and is open to all qualified Bermudian students.  This scholarship is available immediately for students admitted to the fall semester of 2024, and for subsequent semesters.

We are also pleased to announce that Bermuda College has signed a MyPath2ASU® articulation agreement with Arizona State University. Pathways for transferring credit between the two institutions are being established and will be expanded to ensure students can apply their credits to their major of choice at ASU.

Mark Guishard, Chief Operating Officer of ASU BIOS said, “We are privileged to have supported ASU in delivering these educational initiatives, and we look forward to expanding our great partnership with the Bermuda College, for the benefit of Bermuda.”

The pathways and scholarships support Bermudians joining ASU in a number of different modalities – online, in-person (‘immersion’) and hybrid. While ASU BIOS is proud to help facilitate these educational efforts, the scholarships available are not limited to marine science, oceanography or environmental studies. These opportunities offer access to ASU’s entire catalogue of study: 400+ degree programs in person and 300+ degree programs online.

Constance Ridley-Smith, Coordinator of External Programmes and Articulation Agreements at Bermuda College said, “We consider the articulation between Bermuda College (BC) and Arizona State University to be a stellar move.  This is a win for the island of Bermuda, and Bermudian students of all ages.”

The application process for future terms at ASU is open now. Representatives from ASU expect to visit Bermuda this fall to share information about ASU and these scholarship opportunities with ASU BIOS encouraging interested students and families to attend.
