Walwyn Hughes is an entomologist by training and a retired civil servant. He served many years as Director of Agriculture in Bermuda before becoming the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment and then the Ministry of Finance. Dr. Hughes was appointed to the Senate, the upper House of Bermuda's Legislature, in 1996 until retiring at the end of 2011.
