As a member of the BIOS team since 2015, Captain Rick Verlini is responsible for a number of tasks associated with the safe running of the R/V Atlantic Explorer. Rick’s role includes overseeing the annual repair and maintenance of the R/V Atlantic Explorer (including purchasing of parts and equipment), managing shipyard visits, organizing and implementing crew and scientist safety training, managing the R/V Atlantic Explorer’s safety management plan, and acting as the R/V Atlantic Explorer’s Security Officer. In addition, Rick occasionally forms part of the ship’s crew rotation as either Master or Mate.
