Capt. John Moore

Captain John Moore is a graduate of the Cadet Program at Warsash College (Southampton, U.K.) and the Nova Scotia Navigation College (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada), where he graduated with a B.Sc. in marine transportation. From 1968 until 2013 he was vice president of marine operations for Meyer Shipping, a branch of the Meyer Group of Companies that handles shipping, freight, travel, tours, IT services, and property development. Since the mid-1970s, Moore has also served as a consultant to BIOS (then BBSR), working with the marine superintendants as a source of local knowledge and acting as a liaison between the BIOS Marine Operations Department and a host of Bermuda Government agencies. He has also served as second officer aboard the R/V Weatherbird, the R/V Weatherbird II, and the R/V Atlantic Explorer. From January 2017 to February 2021 he served on the Bermuda Goverment Ports Authority; from January 2016 to February 2000 he served on the Bermuda Land Development Board. In 2020 he was given the BIOS Sir Richard M. Gorham award for service
