Course Dates and Academic Credit

Course Dates

Dates shown on the BIOS website are the first and last days of the course, unless stated otherwise. Courses routinely start on a Monday and end on a Friday. Students should plan to arrive the day before the course and depart on the day after the course. Students who wish to arrive early, or stay extra days after the course, must make arrangements in advance by contacting jane.burrows@bios.asu.edu. There will be an extra charge associated with stays beyond the normal course offerings.

Please be aware that students must possess a return airline ticket before they will be allowed to pass through Bermuda Immigration. Flight information must be forwarded to the BIOS Education Department at least six weeks before the course arrival date so that we can seek permission for you to enter Bermuda. Students should review the Immigration Information, to ensure that their travel documents are in order, prior to purchasing their tickets.

Academic Credit

For most degree programs, students can receive academic credit for participating in summer courses at BIOS. If you are an undergraduate student interested in earning academic credit, you must research this option with your home institution prior to arriving in Bermuda.

The following steps might be useful to consider:

  • Obtain a copy of all related information (e.g. course syllabus) about the program in which you will participate, from the BIOS website or from bios.education@bios.asu.edu. Provide this information to your Academic Advisor, Department Head or Study Abroad Coordinator. Work with your Academic Advisor to ensure that the coursework you take at BIOS meets your institute's academic requirements
  • At the end of the course, BIOS will provide you with a signed transcript that you may submit to your school. The transcript will identify the course, the instructor, location, dates, the course material that was covered and the hours dedicated to lecture, lab and field work. The BIOS transcript also includes the marking scheme for the course and your grade
  • Submit all completed documentation to your Academic Advisor when you finish your Bermuda visit. Make sure the final documentation is filed with your Department or Study Abroad office
